The Argentine Influence: Footsteps Across the World
From the thrill of a Formula One race to the rhythmic beat of your heart, Argentina has produced many renowned personalities that have influenced global society. This limited list includes scientists, statesmen, artists and athletes – spanning across different fields but all equal in their inspirational legacies.

Jorge Luis Borges
A literary hero of Argentina, Jorge Luis Borges is considered to be one of the best modern writers and a master of Spanish prose. Borges was a poet, essayist, critic, translator and short-story writer. His texts serves as vehicles for complex philosophical themes. He was also a specialist in the history, culture and literature of Argentina and Uruguay.

Juan Manuel Fangio
Many consider Juan Manuel Fangio to be the greatest racing driver in the history of the sport. He won five Formula One World Driver's Championships in 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957 with four different teams (Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati) - a feat that has not been repeated since.

Rene Favaloro
In 1967, Rene Favaloro became the first surgeon to perform bypass surgery on a patient suffering from coronary artery disease. This procedure later developed into the most important technology in coronary surgery. Favaloro is considered to be one of the preeminent cardiovascular surgeons of the 20th Century and a pioneer in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
 

Ernesto "Che" Guevara
Che Guevara was a revolutionary, politician, author, physician and military theorist. He was the foremost figure in Latin America advocating revolution. After his death, his stylized image became a ubiquitous countercultural symbol worldwide. He continues to be a symbol of rebellion and the alluring zeal of revolution.

Domingo Liotta
In the afternoon of 4 April 1969, one of the greatest medical adventures of the 20th Century was performed for the first time. Domingo Liotta, a reputed pioneer of heart surgery and creator of multiple cardiac prostheses - transplanted a complete artificial heart into a human being. His contribution to sciences and mankind has been remarkable.

Diego Maradona

Diego Armando Maradona is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time. Maradona won a World Cup, league titles in Argentina and Italy, national Cups in Spain and Italy, and numerous individual honours including best player at the 1986 World Cup, FIFA Goal of the Century and FIFA Player of the Century (People's Choice).

Cesar Pelli
Cesar Pelli solidified his position as one of the 20th Century's superlative architects by designing some of the world's tallest buildings and other major urban landmarks. His most famous creation is the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lampur, which was once the world's tallest building. He also designed the World Financial Center complex in downtown Manhattan, Expansion of Washington National Airport at Washington, D.C. and many others.

Eva Peron
Eva Peron, affectionately referred to as Evita, served as the First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death in 1952. She also ran the Ministries of Labour and Health, founded and ran the charitable Eva Peron Foundation, championed women's suffrage in Argentina and founded and ran the nation's first large-scale female political party, the Female Peronist Party. Her example of passion and determination continues to thrive in the collective conscience of Argentines.

Isabel Peron
In 1974, Maria Estela Martinez de Peron, best known as Isabel Peron, became the first female President in modern history and the youngest Latin American head of state at 43 years. She was the first non-royal female head of state and one of the most influential women in Argentine politics.
