The British Council provides schools in India with an opportunity to offer UK examinations to their students. There is a wide range of examinations to choose from, such as English language, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and other school examinations. Here are details of some of the exams.

YLE : Young Learners English Tests |
|
The English for speakers of other Languages (ESOL) department of the University of Cambridge has designed and developed the YLE tests for 7 - 12 years olds.The tests assess and certify the listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of young learners. The tests encourages children to use the English language fluently, build confidence and introduce them to international tests at an early age. All candidates receive an award indicating their performance in each of the four skills.

KET & PET : Key English Test (KET) and Preliminary English Test (PET)
|
|
These tests are the first and second level of the internationally recognized Cambridge exams in English for speakers of other Languages. Taken by children who already have a basic knowledge of English, the tests are practical and assess the learner's ability to communicate in English in everyday situations. The tests give a comprehensive picture of the learner's overall language ability and assess all four language skills, including the listening and speaking components. All successful candidates receive a certificate indicating their language ability.

ICT AWARDS: Information an Communications Technology

|
Cambridge Starters Awards in Information and Communications Technology have been designed as an introduction to the world of ICT. The Award is available at three levels - Initial Steps, Next Steps and On Track. Successful candidates receive a certificate indicating their performance. The tests are predominantly aimed at students in the age group of 6 and 16 years.

GCE : The General Certificate of Education
|
|
The (GCE) examinations are described as the 'gold standard' of the education system and widely recognized internationally. They provide entry to higher education and professional studies in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The examinations are conducted at two levels, ordinary (O) and Advanced (A) which are similar to Class X and Class XII examinations. The two Boards that offer the GCE curriculum in India are Edexcel International and Cambridge International Examinations.
