I don't think many of you know that Soya protein can help in lowering the incidences of heart diseases, controlling certain types of cancer, bone diseases as well as menopausal symptoms. This was revealed by Dr Susan Potter, a PHD in human nutrition and head of the Nutritional Sciences Division of Protein Technologies. In the U.S. cardio vascular diseases kill 10 times more than breast cancer in women, which is also said to be true for the affluent class in India.
According to Potter, the cholesterol lowering benefits of Soya protein are so well established that the U.S. FDA approved the health claim that a daily intake of Soya protein along with a diet in saturated fats would reduce cholesterol and lower cardio vascular risks.

Studies also have reported a potential role Soya protein may play in reducing blood pressures in women. Additional work is under way studying potential effects on blood vessel elasticity and reduction of plague formation. Research in benefits of Soya protein started in the 80's. It was noticed that Japanese and Chinese women who typically consume high Soya diet, have lower incidences of hormone dependent cancers such as uterine and breast cancer. “They also report fewer incidences of Hot flashes,” plus the recent studies suggest that a high intake of Soya during adolescence may reduce the risk of breast cancer in later life. Consumption of Soya protein also maintain bone density and mineral content in pre menopausal women and increase bone density and bone content in post important factor in prevention of osteoporosis. New studies done in animals and humans provide increasing evidence that support various anti-cancer activities of Soya protein with naturally occurring isoflames.
In India research is going on about children health. Going by the potential it has shown soya protein, which is the only veg protein that compares favorably to the animal protein for e.g. meat, egg may have the key to good health. Inspite of being the fifth largest Soya producer the per capita consumption in India is still very low, but increasing awareness about the benefits of Soya in India is on the way. So start with soya to bring joy of health.
